Installing Foam Backed Carpet

Carpet can really change the way a room looks and feels. When we bought our house all the carpet had to be torn out and we had to lay down all new plywood for the subfloors. At the time Caity and I didn't have much money so we had to settle for the cheapest carpet we could find. A horrible shade of blue that was about 1/4 inch thick including the backing. Never again will I buy blue carpet. So recently Caitys mom had new carpet installed at her house and gave us the old carpet. Well last weekend we finally made time to install it. What a difference. The install was pretty simple and all you need is basic tools.

Tools/ materials
  • Tape measure
  • utility knife with carpet blades
  • chalk line
  • sharpy
  • carpet tape
  • seam tape
"Alright lets get into this"
  1. Rip out the old carpet and tack strips
  2. Wash the floor
  3. Measure the room
  4. Cut the carpet a little big
  5. When the floor is clean and dry run 2 rows of carpet tape along the perimeter of the room. Leave the paper on the back of the tape until the carpet is in place.
  6. Lay the carpet out tight to one wall, pull the paper backing off this areas tape, and firmly press it in place.
  7. Keep pulling the carpet tight and trimming the extra off till you are done.
I think moving all the furniture out of the living room took longer than the install. This project turned out really nice and helps makes the room feel bigger and warmer. Caity likes it so Im happy with it too. One more thing to cross off the honey do list.

Spring Chores

My own list of chores is endless but at least it is getting warm enough to get some stuff done.
Just a few things at the top
Clean the gutters
Level the yard
clean and organize the garage
rake the yard
clean up the winters dog poop
wash the decks
seed the lawn
clean out the firepit
get ready for big garbage day
go to the scrap yard
As I said my list is endless and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Fortunately my wife is very helpful and she watches our daughter while I'm busy outside. Its just amazing how much stuff builds up over the winter.
